If the Shoe Fits

Published on 5 May 2025 at 14:36

Have you ever bought gym shoes with the best intentions of becoming a fitness fanatic, but the barely used purchase apparently found their true calling as a doorstop. And those elegant, pointy-toed pumps, the one that looked so fabulous but felt like medieval torture after five minutes? But you spent the money and who can toss that out? Besides, there may be a time when you change your mind and make it to that exercise class. And let’s face it, those pointy toe shoes have clobbered plenty of pesky critters in the corner.

I say, If the shoe fits, by all means keep them, if you can find the other one lost in the dark abyss.

Conquer Shoe Clutter in Your Closet!

Having a small closet doesn’t mean your shoes have to live in a disorganized pile! With a little creativity and the right solutions, you can maximize every inch of space and keep your footwear neat and accessible. There are a variety of affordable storage solutions that can help you tackle this common household challenge. Let’s explore some clever ways to organize your shoes.

1. Embrace Vertical Space:

 * Over-the-door shoe organizers: These handy organizers hang on the back of your closet door, providing multiple pockets for shoes. They’re perfect for sneakers, flats, and sandals.

 * Hanging shoe shelves: Similar to over-the-door organizers, but made of fabric or mesh shelves that hang from the closet rod. These can accommodate bulkier shoes or even folded clothing.

 * Stackable shoe racks: If you have a little floor space, stackable shoe racks allow you to build upwards instead of outwards. Look for adjustable ones to fit different shoe heights.

2. Think Inside the Closet:

 * Shelf dividers: If your closet has shelves, use dividers to create individual sections for shoes, preventing them from toppling over and creating clutter.

  * The one-in, one-out rule: For every new pair of shoes you buy, consider getting rid of an old pair to maintain a manageable collection.

3. Declutter. Take all your shoes out and decide which ones you actually wear and want to keep.

This can be really fun. Think about it, those platform shoes and disco days are solid gold. Just be careful not to sprain an ankle trying them on again!
